Trauma & Orthopaedics Research Charity aims to provide top-quality support service to patients and clinicians involved in musculoskeletal injury or disease.

The charity has provided funding for the refurbishment of meeting rooms, X-ray storage and office space for staff within the hospital. This included PCs, an X-ray digitiser, clever touch screen and equipment for research studies such as sawbones, surgical tools and virtual reality kit.

In addition TORC has also donated equipment to Musgrave Park Hospital for clinical use for example patient supports which are used in hip replacement operations.

Some of the projects we have supported recently include:

Bone foam leg elevators for patient use within the hospitals: Craigavon Area Hospital, Altnagelvin Hospital, Ulster Hospital, Musgrave Park Hospital, and the Royal Victoria Hospital.
A simulation training room at Musgrave Park Hospital, including VirtaMed Arthroscopy Simulation Equipment for surgeons to complete training modules.
Training day workshop on 3D printed models to practice fixing broken elbow bones in children.
Royal Victoria Hospital Trauma Team training which involved using a high fidelity manikin to provide an experience as close to reality as possible.
Knee Arthroscopy Simulation Day at Musgrave Park Hospital for Orthopaedic Trainees.
Set up a Patient Liaison Group for hip and knee replacement patients to gain a better understanding of the patient experience.
Sophie’s Clinical Nurse Specialist with BOOM Foundation.
TORC Training and Education Hub based in Musgrave Park Hospital. A dedicated space for staff to use within the hospital for research, training and education.
