Trauma & Orthopaedics Research Charity

TORC Walk

Every year Trauma & Orthopaedics Research Charity run their annual sponsored walk. The walk is open to anyone who has benefited from orthopaedic surgery, family and friends. The 1 mile course takes place in Musgrave Park, adjacent to the hospital. It is not a race and you can complete as much of the course as you wish, at your own speed! After the sponsored walk around the park there are some refreshments served in the Bowling Pavilion with music, craft stalls, face painting for the kids and a chance to find out more about the charity and the work we do.

TORC have been hosting their annual walk for 20 years now. It used to be called the BART Walk right up until the charity rebranded in 2021 to Trauma & Orthopaedics Research Charity (TORC). The event itself has raised a substantial amount of money through the years via donations, sponsorship and from the generosity of their supporters.

Over the last 20 years since the event started in 2001 over 1 Million has been raised and in the 1st year alone it raised over £100,000, a truly incredible achievement for any charity. It shows that the walk is still a well-established event and has sustained over the years.

The majority of the participants that take part in the TORC Walk are patients that have undergone orthopaedic surgery. And even though it is only a 1 mile sponsored walk in Musgrave Park, many of these participants, prior to surgery would struggle to walk 1 mile, so this event to them is like running a marathon and is a huge achievement. Anyone who has taken part in the TORC walk that has recovered from surgery has noticed that it has drastically improved their quality of life and they are very grateful to be active again.
